What Is An E-mail And How To Create A New E-mail Address?

META: No matter where you are in the world sending an email is a quick way of communicating with everyone in your life. When you form a new email address it is imperative that you know how to go about it.

An electronic mail or e-mail as it is better known, is a method for individuals to communicate with each other via the internet. Mail is circulated across the Internet by SMPT or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It was actually launched in the 80’s but has received frequent modifications. It still stands however, to be the common standard used to date. The SMPT is programmed to identify an e-mail address and in case it is unable to do so, the sender is notified of the non-existence of the email address.

An e-mail is generally opened and read via an email client which is stored in a computer. Accessed can be gained to your emails by logging on to any personal computer. Here you will be able to send, receive, check and compose emails. Web mail is a simpler option of sending emails; this is down to the fact that it is placed at a central point on the internet, can be accessed through a specific web application and is far easier to use. Assuming the computer you are using has internet connection and a browser facility, you can use the web mail service anywhere.

There are various web mail service providers that offer free email services but you could choose to select a paid-for service too. Email addresses are required if you wish to exchange messages with one another through this medium; this is despite whether it is paid for or not. The delivery of the message is established by the email address used. This is like any postal address, it identifies the area. From an address you can receive all your electronic mail as well as sending messages to everyone you know. The email address displays a specific location that can easily be identified by various servers and networks.

Emails have an attribute that is common in all email addresses across the web. They all begin with a user name for example, Richard or Mary or Janet, followed by the ‘@’ (at) symbol after which comes the host name, for instance, Google or Yahoo or Hotmail etc and finally a three letter abbreviation describing the organisation that operates the server for example .com, .gov, .edu, .com and so on. Due to the fact that the features generally remain unchanged, forming an email address for yourself has never been easier.

While creating an email address for yourself, you should be aware that there are certain limitations. The user name must not exceed sixty-five characters and although it is not considered case sensitive, lower case letters are more commonly used but if you prefer it, you can use upper case letters as well. You can also include various other characters but it is advisable not to use these, as they are hard to identify. The symbol that separates the user and domain name apart is the ‘at’ symbol. Due to the fact you can only use letters, numbers and the hyphen symbol, the domain name is a bit more limited.

Having learnt the basics of how to create a new email account, you are now ready to start using your new email addresses to begin communicating with your family and friends.
